Canine Adoption Fees and Guidelines

  1. The purpose of our adoption program is to find responsible, lifelong homes for animals suitable as family pets.
  2. Only healthy adult and juvenile dogs that are not known to have exhibited potentially dangerous or vicious tendencies or other serious behavioral disorders will be eligible for adoption.
  3. People living in rental housing should check with their landlord to see if pets are allowed, and if any pet deposits are required before adoption. Proof must be shown of ability to keep pets in rental housing.
  4. To help control over-population in our county, a veterinarian at our shelter sterilizes dogs and cats each week. If not already altered at the time of adoption, you are required to have pet spayed or neutered.
  5. Heartworm preventative should be administered year round in our geographical area starting at four (4) months of age and continued for the rest of the animal's life.
  6. Regular veterinary checkups, dentals, vaccinations, and supportive care is often costly and necessary for your pets welfare. Adopting a pet without having the resources to properly care for it is not in the best interest of the owner or the pet.
  7. There is a seventy five dollar ($75) adoption fee per animal.
  8. The animal will be up-to-date on first shots, first worming, spay/neuter, rabies certificate, heartworm test, and microchip (for dogs over 6 months). A $100 deposit is required for on all unaltered pets which will be repayed when the animal is spayed or neutered.
  9. Pets can be held for up to 24 hours for a fee of $35 which goes toward the adoption.
